Pro surfing fans are likely familiar with the brothers Griffin and Cosby Colapinto, who are quickly gaining recognition within the World Surf League. Outside of the competition, there seems to be another Colapinto family member who is as talented, but in a very different style of surfing — Corey Colapinto, their cousin.
Corey is a gifted young surfer born in Hawaii and raised in California’s surf mecca San Clemente. His surfing is praised for being smooth, polished, and stylish. Not to mention his nimble footwork and exceptional skill in noseriding. It stands out even to those who are not familiar with this sport. One can easily notice the unique way in which he rides waves.
Corey stopped competing some time ago and got into longboarding to follow his dad’s footsteps. Since then he has been sharing his rides with homemade boards and music on Instagram. @kookapinto is one of our most favourite places on the internet. If you appreciate beautiful, laid-back surfing in uncrowded lineups and enjoy acoustic soundtracks, then Corey's Instagram account is worth checking out.
Inspired by shapers like Tommy Witt, Ryan Burch, Josh Martin and Donald Takayama Corey started shaping a couple years ago. Read more about his custom made surfboards on kookapinto.com.
What does the future hold for Corey Colapinto? For the next few years, he is focused on becoming a school teacher.
