A second life
Recycled polyester
We are using only recycled polyester for our garments. Recycled polyester is made from post-consumer and post-industrial plastic, which otherwise would end up in landfills or in the ocean. Using more recycled polyester reduces our dependence on crude oil as the raw material to make more and more plastic. With the same technical performance as virgin polyester, recycled polyester has a much smaller footprint and can be recycled again and again, without significantly degrading in quality.
A better alternative
Organic cotton
All our garments are made of organic cotton grown from non-genetically modified plants and without the use of any synthetic agricultural chemicals such as fertilizers or pesticides (aside from the ones allowed by the certified organic labeling). Besides that, organic cotton needs less water than standard cotton which encourages the health of soils, ecosystems and people by using natural processes.

Fair wear
All of our garments are produced in Asian factories which are GOTS-certified and audited by the Fair Wear Foundation. All garments are also ÖKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. We are proud to be able to say that all our products are printed and embroidered in our hometown Hamburg.

On-demand finishing
Our vision to be an ecologically sustainable brand starts with our business model of on-demand. What does this mean for you as a customer? Only once you have placed your order, we start the printing and embroidering process. As a result, you can be sure that a Youth Lagoon garment is truly unique and made just for you. But why does this matter? We are preventing overproduction. Overproduction does not only lead to goods being stored in warehouses for a prolonged time in the absence of customer demand but it also means we can minimize waste by reducing unnecessary material in general.
Giving back
1% for 50 Reefs
In 2021 we participated in the 1% For The Planet movement. Members are encouraged to support environmental solutions by committing 1% of their annual revenue to environmental actions. For 2022 we have decided to resume our engagement by donating 1% of our revenue to the 50 Reefs initiative. The aim of the 50 Reefs initiative is to identify an optimum portfolio of coral reefs that, together, have the potential of surviving the impacts of climate change and the ability to help repopulate neighboring reefs over time.
Our choice
Plastic free
We do plastic-free packaging. Therefore, all garments won’t be packed in plastic bags, but will be wrapped in tissue paper for shipping.
Regional sourcing
Sustainable timber
By producing with various types of local timber (FSC®-certified), for example beech and ash, our surfskate decks do not only have an exceptionally high quality but we avoid additional transportation and can reduce our carbon footprint.

Our skateboard and surfskate decks are handcrafted with heart and soul in a local German woodshop. The core construction and materials are an unique example of fine craftmanship and a truly sustainable product.

GOTS Certification
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognised as the world's leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres. It defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well.
ÖKO-TEX Standard 100
STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is one of the world's best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. It stands for customer confidence and high product safety.
If a textile article carries the STANDARD 100 label, you can be certain that every component of it, i.e. every thread, button and other accessories, has been tested for harmful substances and that the article is therefore harmless in human ecological terms.
The test is conducted by independent OEKO-TEX® partner institutes on the basis of extensive OEKO-TEX® criteria catalog. In the test they take into account numerous regulated and non-regulated substances, which may be harmful to human health.
Fair Wear Foundation
Fair Wear Foundation (Fair Wear) is an independent, non-profit organisation that works to improve conditions for workers in garment factories. Fair Wear is active in 15 production countries in Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe.
To do this, Fair Wear focuses on garment production, specifically sewing, cutting and trimming processes–the most labour intensive parts of the supply chain. Fair Wear works with 130 member brands, who are committed to finding a fairer way to make clothes, and engage directly with factories, trade unions, NGOs and governments to find answers to problems others think are unsolvable. Together with it members Fair Wear is stitching together new solutions across the supply chain to make fashion fair for everyone.
FSC® ( Forest Stewardship Council)
FSC® runs a global forest certification system with two key components - Forest Management and Chain of Custody.
The FSC® system allows businesses and consumers to identify, purchase and use wood, paper and other forest products made with materials from well-managed-forest and/or recycled sources.
